Find where people drop off
Most visitors never buy. This walkthrough shows you exactly which step loses them, so you know which page to fix first.
Before you start
- Page tracking on your website, so each page counts visitors.
- A conversion for the moment you care about, like Purchase.
Step 1 | Put your pages on the Board in order
- Open your Board and click Pages in the toolbar.
- Add Homepage, Product page, Checkout and Purchase.
- Line them up from left to right in the order people go through them.

Step 2 | Connect them
Press L for the Connect tool and drag from each card to the next: Homepage to Product page, Product page to Checkout, Checkout to Purchase.
Step 3 | Add a Conversion block between each step
- Click Blocks and add a Conversion block.
- Remove the line between two cards, then connect the first card into the block and the block into the second card.
- Do the same for each pair of steps.

Step 4 | Read the rates
Each block shows what share of people made it to the next step. The block with the lowest number is where you lose the most people.
- A low rate from Homepage to Product page often means people can’t find what they came for.
- A low rate from Checkout to Purchase often points at price, shipping or the payment form.
Step 5 | Save it as a funnel
Measure the same steps as a funnel to see the exact number of people at each step and how many dropped off.
A funnel from Homepage to Order confirmed: 100%, 47%, 20% and 13%, with 13% made it through
Follow the steps in Measuring a funnel to add it to your Analytics board and watch it over time.
Step 6 | Check each source
Pick one source at a time in All sources at the top of the Board. The Conversion blocks then show the rates for the people that source brought, so you see whether one ad or creator loses more people than the rest. See Picking sources.
